Day 162: Battle of the Heroes

The Prompt: Spiderman and Wolverine have a battle.  Who wins and why?  Write a short story.

I know next to nothing about superheroes.  I am going to make this one about Spiderman and Superman.  This will be a friendly battle to practice their abilities and have fun.  They’re not actually enemies.

Superman stood on the sidewalk.  His muscles were tensed, and his ears were attentive to the noises he heard around him.  Rush hour traffic had started twenty minutes ago, and the streets were still half-empty as men and women were just starting to go to work.  He was on a sidewalk near the end of the street, so not many people were nearby.  His eyes stood fixed on the alleyway to his left.

Spiderman climbed down the fire escape ladder on the side of the old brick building.  He was hoping to approach his target from the ground then use his web to fling him back up out of danger.  He jumped softly to the dirt, skipping the last four steps.  He was used to walking silently in order to not be detected.  Once he was at the edge of the alley’s wall, he pressed his back against it and poked his head over so slightly around the corner.

Superman made a running bound towards the alley, and Spiderman cocked his wrist and used his web to hoist himself to the opposite wall.  Superman picked up the dumpster and chucked it the building’s roof, but Spiderman moved out of the way too quickly and leapt onto the fire escape ladder.  Superman ran to it, and his biceps flexed as he tore the metal off the side of the building.  Once Spiderman felt the ladder slip from under him, he used his web to help him grab the edge of the building and flip himself onto the roof.

Superman made footholes into the wall by punching as he walked upwards.  Once he got to the top of the building, he saw Spiderman was already leaping from building to building, Superman ran after him and could easily keep up.  After leaping over four buildings, he stopped and ripped a weather vane off the roof.  He watched Spiderman shoot out his web and swing with it like a vine.  Taking aim, he threw the weather vane at Spiderman’s web, which snapped on impact.  Spiderman fell off the twelve story building but as able to catch onto one of the window sills.  Superman ran after the swinging monkey, using any smaller object he could find on the roof to hurtle at him. The two continued in this fashion until they were bored and made a truce.
