Day 60: Trash or Treasure?

Technically, this is posted on Saturday, but I am posting it before I end my day.

The Prompt: What would you find in the pastor’s garbage can?

Empty envelopes from old bills.  An apple core because an apple a day keeps the doctor away.  Pens that have written dozens of drafts for his sermons.  Oh look, it's the box from the new Bible that the pastor ordered last week.  His old one had finally fallen apart.  Underneath all the unneeded papers he has accumulated is some candy wrappers (Snickers to be exact) that has helped him stay awake to finish writing.  Of course there is your typical garbage such as food wrappers, used napkins, and a body of a fly that went to meet its Maker.

But here is what you can't see.  Tears of sorrow, frustration, and anger, both from the pastor and members of the congregation who have come to visit him.  Old habits that, with prayer and God's aid, have been broken.  Lost hopes and dreams that have been replaced with bigger and better ones.  Old prayers that have been answered.  Sins that were forgiven.  Everything he ever regretted or felt ashamed of or embarrassed over.  All gone and over with.  These were in the past, have gotten tossed away, and now it is time to move on.

    1. Aww, really? That's so sweet of you! It's funny because this one was really hard to write. I couldn't think of anything.
